SYNOPSIS

‘To the roots’ is a choreographic piece in which contemporary dance and urban dances are mixed to offer an avant-garde vision of the deities of the Yoruba pantheon. The dancers show their vision of the characters and energies of these divinities but breaking stereotypes and experimenting with Afro-Cuban roots.

BIOGRAPHY

The Concept is a small-format professional company founded on September 24, 2017 and currently based in Barcelona. Designed to satisfy artistic and creative needs, not only in dance, but also in other manifestations, it is the only company of its kind created in Cuba to date. Its aesthetic is based on the fusion of contemporary dance and urban dances, but without leaving behind the roots of Cuban culture. The company is made up of four dancers from different backgrounds and seeks to exploit the variety of movement qualities that each one possesses, while seeking to unify them into an identity concept, a unique tool in the defense of a distinctive physicality. The Concept is a safe space to connect cultures and enhance identity.
